<br></div>
Hello fellow naturales and lovers of all things hair!<br>
<br>
So I have been going through a rough patch lately with Fro. Don't get me wrong. I still love her. I do. But she can be so demanding of my attention and tender love and care. It has never crossed my mind to break up with her. Noooo. But I have thought about trimming her back down to a teeny weeny fro. Maybe a length which I could just roll out the house without having to mess with her and the ton of products that litter my bathroom. But will I not regret it the minute the pair of shears finishes its sentence? Will my heart not break for the many wasted hours of care I have invested in Fro?<br>
<br>
I am so tired! Mane fatigue. It has been my main fatigue lately LOL! I guess what brought it on was a duped hair appointment. African lady said she could do this one particular style I sent her a picture of....flat twist mohawk kind of do. My Kenyan behind trusted that a Senegalese hairdresser surely is a good hairdresser right? Wrong!<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1cjsABu52Uk/VigVPBY8jpI/AAAAAAAAARk/Kqz_NUMV324/s1600/flattwist%2Bmohawk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1cjsABu52Uk/VigVPBY8jpI/AAAAAAAAARk/Kqz_NUMV324/s320/flattwist%2Bmohawk.jpg" width="320"></a>Courtesy of Google Images.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br></div>
Cute right? Yeah! I thought I could rock that do and would really love it.<br>
So I get there and I have the Expressions hair she said I would need. All 4 of them. Then she asks to see the picture again as she parted my hair. Then again, Then again. She is nervous! Her hands are shaking and I can hear the panic in her voice when she says it is harder than she thought. Breath. Just breath Dama!! I readjust my expectations and I still give her a chance. What about Senegalese twists? I showed her my FB pics of what size and length I like them. Says that is easy.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ysw8csx_deM/VigW-PRQAII/AAAAAAAAARw/_pHwWfBRHjo/s1600/sen2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ysw8csx_deM/VigW-PRQAII/AAAAAAAAARw/_pHwWfBRHjo/s320/sen2.jpg" width="213"></a></div>
<span style="text-align: center;"> My expectation</span><br>
<br>
That is not what I got at all. Instead, pardon me for this horrible do that quickly came down due to how ashamed I was to be caught like that....<br>
<br>
Girl! Here is the reality.<br>
<div>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vZMv47nQp_s/VighbA-37GI/AAAAAAAAASA/x1ulBxh3URY/s640/blogger-image--1950784463.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vZMv47nQp_s/VighbA-37GI/AAAAAAAAASA/x1ulBxh3URY/s640/blogger-image--1950784463.jpg"></a></div>
<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
Imagine!! What's with all that space?<br>
<br>
I freaking told her I always use up 4-4.5 bags of Expressions on every one of my Senegalese twist hair-dos!!! Why did she hand me TWO BAGS of leftover hair? I looked like a kanyuru! You know that bald chicken your mom used to have? Mine did. We had a couple of those funny looking chickens. The outcome of my hair reminded me of them. From now on, I will take breaks and look at a mirror every 5 minutes see what the hell is happening on my head. I was too trusting!Nkt!<br>
<br>
I could very well have flushed money down the toilet. I was so upset at myself more than anything.<br>
<br>
I went to Supercuts after I took it down but the white boy wanted to charge me 25 to straighten and 40 to cut. Someone please explain why?? The white people get a 12 dollar haircut and mine will cost how much? What's the guy's name that is loud about black rights? Let's call him. Nope, never mind, his jerry curl is easy to maintain and he might be getting 12 dollar cuts.Shit!<br>
<br>
Wait. I have trimmed my ends before in front of the mirror. Turned out just fine. I swear the short patch of hair at the crown of my head is unexplainable! :-)The mister has a Philips trimmer that has the attachments I could just trim my own hair. I am so tired!!<br>
<br>
Days turn into weeks and I am still wallowing in indecision and frustration. We have a vacation coming up and there will probably be lots of swimming and water activities. Should I find someone else to do braids to make for easy maintenance? But do I want sand and all that in my braids? Maybe wait till I return. I might feel better about my mane. I might rekindle that love affair that used to have me giddy and excited with Fro. I will shampoo and condition daily to get all that salt and chlorine out while on vacay.<br>
<br>
I have learnt the hard way and yet I still keep falling into the trap of hoping cheap will be hot this time. In trying to save money, (100 bucks was not too shabby for small senegalese right?) I lost money, time, and excitement for my mane. I see why one would rather pay 200 or 250 at Fina's and be assured she will love her hair-do. I have also gotten to discover more African hair stores with decent prices and hairdressers here in town. Driving to Dallas used to be an option hubby was more than happy to do to get me what I was happy about. Dallas is not off the list.<br>
<br>
My point is, I am not always smiles about my hair. It drives me loca at times. I want to trim it, I desire a sew-in sometimes yet I know I can never keep it up more than two or three weeks. I want braids but I know I seldom keep them past 4 weeks. I freakin' don't know! My mane fatigue however, is temporary I know. I want to see my hair long, but then again a tapered cut just appeals to me so much at times. I am in the middle of indecision. So just like KhloΓ© is sticking by Lamar's side at this tumultuous time in his life, I won't make any rash decisions regarding Fro's future. Shoot, they might just get back together; KhloΓ© and Lamar. I will wait it out and see what tomorrow brings. Meanwhile, I still moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Fro is a hot mess now but it's all good.<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L32TB4uIdAI/VigjRAkssYI/AAAAAAAAASM/Eln4JFsleF8/s640/blogger-image--2067996970.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L32TB4uIdAI/VigjRAkssYI/AAAAAAAAASM/Eln4JFsleF8/s640/blogger-image--2067996970.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><br>
<br>
Fro love never really dies does it. It is just a rough patch.<br>

Then a few years later my hair hated it! Mucousy, (I am British-influenced you see), and plain too heavy for my mane! Enter kinky curly leave in. Absolutely love that stuff! Fro decided she outgrew that too..... Dang!<br />
<div>
Oh Cantu! Cantu made the leave in conditioner just for me! A little goes a loooong way!! I can still use it for my twists but not a quick leave in for a wash n go. Yucky mess. </div>
<div>
Shea moisture's curl enhancing smoothie is almost edible. That stuff is amazing! I have to be careful not to use too much anymore or my hair remains heavy for days. A dolop for the whole head. That's it! Used to be I needed to use it section by section. Not anymore. Fro ain't so greedy anymore I guess. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's been a journey of discovery and having to go along with Fro's needs and demands. At this juncture, seems like my good ole spritz still works its magic on Fro. I know moisture, temperatures, wind etc all factor in when it comes to what your hair needs. Different seasons, different needs.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Don't know if I'm the only one who has experienced issues with product rejection but I will sure Google to find out! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div>
<div>
One of these days I will figure out my winter/fall stash, spring stash, and summer stash. Maybe even have a grey basket for the winter, green for spring, and yellow for summer. Orange for fall? I live in Texas. All I have is one barrel of stash.... Oak wood blinged with turquoise and a touch of leather. π. jk. Getting country-fied (country fried? lol!) here. Kidding. Sometimes I feel like a nut.... πsometimes I don't!</div>

I mean, it's a weave don't you think? </span></div><div>I was going through a spell, and I was super tired of Fro driving me nuts. The mister knew it was coming..... Another failed attempt at a different do. And I was bent on it too! So I lived on YouTube. Lawd I did! </div><div>Then I started having visions of myself as a hair pro. Pst! Then I decided to go at it.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_3NbLlt5Uhg/VSTD9ISTV3I/AAAAAAAAAOU/q8i_beb1QuQ/s640/blogger-image--1874096296.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_3NbLlt5Uhg/VSTD9ISTV3I/AAAAAAAAAOU/q8i_beb1QuQ/s640/blogger-image--1874096296.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So I tried and succeeded! This monster of a marley crochet braid was the ish! That night I mean. Then I woke up. Poof! Hair everywhere! My head was as big as my pillow. I could tell mister was not fond of it but he kept mum. Smart fella. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">See, the vision was for it to look like so,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-HupyqFVeVpc/VSTD9zqy0RI/AAAAAAAAAOc/3aFcEJL9X1I/s640/blogger-image--71076619.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-HupyqFVeVpc/VSTD9zqy0RI/AAAAAAAAAOc/3aFcEJL9X1I/s640/blogger-image--71076619.jpg"></a></div><br></div>On the wedding day that is, not after lol! </div><div>I absolutely had not time the night before or morning of the wedding to re-dip the hair to create the look I was going for. So I bravely befriended the giant Fro. <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Next day was a dear friend's wedding. This naturale was going to rock it! </span></div><div><br></div><div>The pic above was after I re-dipped the mess to tame it a little bit (days after the weddo). It wasn't that bad on the big day actually, except I think my head took more mega pixels than necessary in the pictures. π</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/--sdp9SHSv6Y/VSTD8ibC7iI/AAAAAAAAAOM/6v155JMSigU/s640/blogger-image-814071762.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/--sdp9SHSv6Y/VSTD8ibC7iI/AAAAAAAAAOM/6v155JMSigU/s640/blogger-image-814071762.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">There we are! Fro and I taking center! Looks fab though don't you think? The bride was stunning, and her girls? Well, we were super hot! Loved our dresses! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Back to the hair story. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Few days later, I had to do something different with my crochet weave. Ahem! Braid. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-F9-pk8DOGEs/VSTD7ediXzI/AAAAAAAAAN8/VM4H5khjZXU/s640/blogger-image--1363680738.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-F9-pk8DOGEs/VSTD7ediXzI/AAAAAAAAAN8/VM4H5khjZXU/s640/blogger-image--1363680738.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Then another day...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-JHzLqQZ_km8/VSTD8GoJZdI/AAAAAAAAAOE/GhcZMrXwMl4/s640/blogger-image--688374966.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-JHzLqQZ_km8/VSTD8GoJZdI/AAAAAAAAAOE/GhcZMrXwMl4/s640/blogger-image--688374966.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Creativity fixes lots of messes. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Would I do marley hair again? Prolly as twists, not crochet. Hubby later admitted texture was too rough and he didn't like it. Well, I didn't much care for it either! But those are truths we naturales take to the grave.... Lol!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I think I got my money's worth. But may be a loooong time before I considered crochet braids again. Maybe a curly type of hair. I have done that before but I didn't keep it long at all. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So this caps off a metamorphosis story of the crochet braid/weave. Have you tried it before? Do you live on YouTube every time before you change styles? Or Google? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Naturally,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Mrs. Roulette </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NdcoTGaAyQI/VSTD-mxokiI/AAAAAAAAAOk/Nuor4HwmCwM/s640/blogger-image--919480062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NdcoTGaAyQI/VSTD-mxokiI/AAAAAAAAAOk/Nuor4HwmCwM/s640/blogger-image--919480062.jpg"></a></div>mcDimpleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503884679607063990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5812897028625680633.post-553439241362853992014-12-03T11:37:00.001-08:002014-12-03T11:39:28.374-08:00Flat twists..... I'm actually getting better at it!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-bfaK-WXtHZQ/VH9mYNPck3I/AAAAAAAAAMs/_Ug9-hooCZg/s640/blogger-image-23789502.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">So, Fro is growing and sometimes she is a hot mess to deal with. <div>
With my newest bestest products, Shea Moisture, my crown is loving it and to have so many compliments at work about how soft my hair feels and how great it smells, I am sold for a looooong time on this line of products. Found them on sale at Sally's Beauty for 7.99 each (shampoo and conditioner). CVS had them for 14 bucks or so. Really? Think I have a dollar tree in my backyard? SMH.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5gLz-YzLTsg/UzD-zUGOfVI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/5IhY7oxxbFA/s1600/shampoo+and+conditioner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5gLz-YzLTsg/UzD-zUGOfVI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/5IhY7oxxbFA/s1600/shampoo+and+conditioner.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Anywho, I had shampooed and conditioned my hair a couple of days prior but on a daily basis, I do some sort of moiturizing. For this particular day, I used the Shea Moisture restorative conditioner after touching my hair up with a little water in my hands. I combed through with my fingers to evenly distribute the conditioner (it's great as a leave in for dry hair but I had also used it as rinse-out after I shampooed). A wee bit goes a loooong way. Then I followed with a little bit of curl enhancing smoothie. These products smell aaaaaaamazing!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EwRWNEr4bs8/UzD--WAr0-I/AAAAAAAAAKA/cTO-jciVA6U/s1600/shea-moisture-curl-enhancing-smoothie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EwRWNEr4bs8/UzD--WAr0-I/AAAAAAAAAKA/cTO-jciVA6U/s1600/shea-moisture-curl-enhancing-smoothie.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And I didn't want to stop touching my hair.... silky smooth!!! With my hair so baby soft, I even felt guilty using any edge tamer. So I didn't. Simply let the baby hairs be.Then I used a hair band that has loosened up enough that I could double up without giving myself a migraine. You know what I'm talking about. the bands that are so tight you get a face lift and a banging headache. For real!<br />
<br />
With the doubled band at the edges of my hairline, I gently pushed it up slowly, less on the front end and more on the back to get the high top puff. I secured the band with three pins evenly set apart and finished with my flower. BAM! Done!<br />
<br />

<br />
Awww, look at my puff all big and about the size of my head!!!!!!!!!<br />
Dressed down, dressed up, doesn't matter. This is one easy go-to do when you do not feel like doing too much with your mane without sacrificing classy appearance.<br />

Yep, me too!!! So I was sitting surfing Amazon (I am an addict). Stumbled upon this supposed soft flexi rods that are easy to sleep in and you get defined curls..... hmmm. Alright......<div><br>
Next thing I was watching out for the mail man and wondering why the P.O. seldom delivers to the door anymore. Finally got them but it was one of those weeks where work kicked my butt to near death and it wasn't until much later that I tried them.<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-HbxjKt5dcvo/UzD1v4Fhc6I/AAAAAAAAAIw/FaOMA0RswbU/s640/blogger-image--326084396.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-HbxjKt5dcvo/UzD1v4Fhc6I/AAAAAAAAAIw/FaOMA0RswbU/s640/blogger-image--326084396.jpg"></a></div><br>
I chose to use them on my dry hair since I did not have forever to wait for it to air dry. I was prepared for 8 hrs or so but that was it. Sista gotta go to work! and looking like Methuselah is by no means therapeutic to the patients. LOL!<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hCAlw_6GsQM/UzD1xe1hQbI/AAAAAAAAAI4/Dhot1J8G7ew/s640/blogger-image--663949285.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hCAlw_6GsQM/UzD1xe1hQbI/AAAAAAAAAI4/Dhot1J8G7ew/s640/blogger-image--663949285.jpg"></a></div><br>
<br>
Time frame, about 8 hrs. I slept in them and I think I may have rolled them too tight but otherwise, cushy enough that my scalp was cool with it.<br>
<br>
Took them down and boy the volume it seemed to give my hair! I did not want to separate the curls for the fro I had planned for. So I just left it like that. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ik2d1ucMxJc/UzD1uJ7oGdI/AAAAAAAAAIo/CIs5JJ3PtpQ/s640/blogger-image--1559548515.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ik2d1ucMxJc/UzD1uJ7oGdI/AAAAAAAAAIo/CIs5JJ3PtpQ/s640/blogger-image--1559548515.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-HqeH2wqQVZE/UzD1z8p8lcI/AAAAAAAAAJI/wO6rhftkkyU/s640/blogger-image-244662062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-HqeH2wqQVZE/UzD1z8p8lcI/AAAAAAAAAJI/wO6rhftkkyU/s640/blogger-image-244662062.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-YWp1Eh02U_s/UzD12EA78OI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/1D1S9OVpINM/s640/blogger-image-1149746818.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-YWp1Eh02U_s/UzD12EA78OI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/1D1S9OVpINM/s640/blogger-image-1149746818.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><div>Even went to the trail for a 3 mile run with it. Yeah, sexy and sweaty go together, agree? :-)</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-n3XfqTIFJns/UzD1ynUlhFI/AAAAAAAAAJA/-xDuWN4lGUQ/s640/blogger-image--1402006605.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-n3XfqTIFJns/UzD1ynUlhFI/AAAAAAAAAJA/-xDuWN4lGUQ/s640/blogger-image--1402006605.jpg"></a></div><div><br></div>Girls don't sweat, they perspire. Just had to throw that in there. π<br>
<br>
It took a lot of time for me to get the rods in place. But with more practice (and youtube videos) I think I will perfect the skill. I am sure placing them on someone else's hair would be a breeze just like the flat twists....Man, do I have a time with doing those on my own cabeza!!!!!<br>
<br>
Have you ever used flexi rods? What is your opinion on them?<br>
<br>
Thanks my dears and God bless you!<br>

It's not easy being a natural chic. I hear this all the time! How is it I find it so natural to be natural? I am sure it's not the supposedly easy to manage texture my hair possesses because Lawd I wish my mane was a little thicker so I can achieve the big twists and fros!!! It's never about the texture. I feel that it is more about knowledge of the products that work well with your mane. </div>
<div abp="445">
<br></div>
<div abp="446">
Basics of hair regimen varies from one naturale to another. I mix my routines up. So it's never really a regimen. All I know is that shampooing, conditioning, hot oil treatment, masque, protein treatments, and deep conditioning are all in that non-systematic regimen. Point of this post is to encourage y'all to think it simple, keep it simple, and the results will simply amaze you.</div>
<div abp="447">
<br></div>
<div abp="448">
Take Lily's hair for example. She has not relaxed her hair for over a year and today, I snipped the final few wisps of relaxed hair. Today she shampooed and conditioned with Shea Moisture products.</div>
<div abp="449">
<img abp="956" class="rg_i" data-src="https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSDM46PnGIFahyl79cjzjRtrCKKa6DAzgYn0iY1kDCv4o9UOhRG" data-sz="f" name="NIaTp9AND055YM:" src="https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSDM46PnGIFahyl79cjzjRtrCKKa6DAzgYn0iY1kDCv4o9UOhRG" style="height: 174px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: -5px; width: 190px;"></div>
<div abp="451">
</div>
<div abp="452">
Love love love the way her hair feels after using this pair and following with 5-10 minutes of Organics hair mayo treatment. This last step is optional. She could have skipped it but I was not sure if she had the conditioner...... So she followed instructions from the last wash. </div>
<div abp="453">
</div>
<div abp="454">
In comes the famous Cantu leave-in conditioner....</div>
<div abp="455">
</div>
<div abp="456" id="productImage">
<img abp="457" alt="Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream - 16 fl oz" height="500" src="http://pics1.ds-static.com/prodimg/158104/500.JPG" width="500"></div>
<div abp="456">
Sorry, darn picture pasted so big but this seems like the actual size LOL!!!!</div>
<div abp="456">
I let it rest in 4 big matutas while we ate dinner then I undid them to prep for styling.</div>
<div abp="456">
</div>
<div abp="456">
Last time I twisted her mane I discovered that Olive oil twisting gel does not go well with the leave-in. Makes this grainy residue. So now, no gel but not sure if the twists will hold without any, I was not going to be embarrassed with a flop. Mimi nani? Translating that phrase makes it sound a little stupid. "Who am I?" :-) LOLEST! I opted for the Pro Styl gel. Not my go to product on natural hair but it worked great! It promises not to flake and after drying, I did not see any. Whew! My choice of twisting gel currently is the Cantu twist and lock gel. Aaaaamazing! But my hair stash is in KC and I am in Austin.... Long story for another day.</div>
<div abp="456">
</div>
<div abp="456">
Applied a very small amount to each section making sure it coats the hair thinly from root to tip then I did my twisting. Combined flat twists and double twists to create an asymmetrical do.</div>
<div abp="456">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cdEy_T6zmfE/UxFuQ5Glq0I/AAAAAAAAAH8/1cESTrCAi6M/s640/blogger-image-182786213.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cdEy_T6zmfE/UxFuQ5Glq0I/AAAAAAAAAH8/1cESTrCAi6M/s640/blogger-image-182786213.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I love the shine on her hair!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-XeapFpPCvPE/UxFvsBsfebI/AAAAAAAAAII/XmMbIhZBDr8/s640/blogger-image-802701863.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-XeapFpPCvPE/UxFvsBsfebI/AAAAAAAAAII/XmMbIhZBDr8/s640/blogger-image-802701863.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ck6pvP3xK1I/UxFvtBAJSTI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/Js35vYTjbz8/s640/blogger-image--1908939101.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ck6pvP3xK1I/UxFvtBAJSTI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/Js35vYTjbz8/s640/blogger-image--1908939101.jpg"></a></div>I did Bantu knots to 'lift' the twists a bit by bunching up about 4 twists and twisting them snugly and wrapping the ends under the knot. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I love how the result turned out!! She should be able to rock this do for about two weeks. It can tolerate workouts and still manage to be dressed up for work by simply maintaining the sheen using a touch of jojoba oil every two days or so. </div><br></div></div>
<div abp="456">
I hope you like it. It was simple, easy and Lily loved it! So you see, it didn't take much. Do not overwhelm yourself with too many products for one-time styling. With time, you will learn your own basic styling must-haves. For me, it is the Cantu leave-in and jojoba oil/my homemade shea, coconut oil, jojoba mousse. Done. Simple way, naturally. </div>
<div abp="456">
</div>
<div abp="456">
Think it simple, keep it simple, and be amazing, your own way. It's your mane after all!!</div>
<div abp="456">
</div>
<div abp="456">
Yours truly,</div>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Sorry guys it took a looooong while to write the review I promised on the spritz I made. </span><a href="http://mytangledmane.blogspot.com/2014/01/homemade-natural-hair-moisturizing.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">http://mytangledmane.blogspot.com/2014/01/homemade-natural-hair-moisturizing.html</span></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Love, love, love this stuff! I use this spray once a day, sometimes twice just coz it is so amazing! My mane loves it. The lightness of the spritz is good for all kinds of hair. One thing to note, if you have straightened your hair, the water (or Aloe Vera juice) will revert your curls. In this case an oil based moisturizer would be preferable. Any who, on open, twisted, braided, or weaved hair, this spritz works great. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">What would I change in my concoction?</span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Probably the aloe Vera juice. For my refill, I used plain water instead of the juice. It saves me the need to refrigerate.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-FbUCozIqqaQ/UvnPVhlic9I/AAAAAAAAAHs/3Ofrzm8rvc4/s640/blogger-image--1988117625.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-FbUCozIqqaQ/UvnPVhlic9I/AAAAAAAAAHs/3Ofrzm8rvc4/s640/blogger-image--1988117625.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Notice a different bottle? The last one I used gave me more of a stream than a spray. This one is recycled. Doesn't take many spritzes to do the job and I am assured all hairs are covered. It pays to be a packrat...... sometimes. :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">Don't forget to adjust your measurements to suit the size of your spritz bottle. Now I just eye ball the ingredients and actually use less of the leave-in conditioner for the same results! Too much of a good thing can yield bad results. Like the time I used ten drops of tea tree oil and I thought I smelt like an entire forest of pine trees. Bet no bee dared land on me though! ;-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">Oh, another suggestion. Want a fresh scent without breaking your bank? I know I do. Those essential oils can get so costly! I have tons of Bath and Body Works body sprays I am yet to use up. I used a small amount of that with the water and I love the scent. Tweak it till you find your favorite, then tweak it again to discover your next new fave!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">How have I used it?</span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I have used it prior to finger-detangling my hair and left it at that and rocked my fro.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">Before double twisting or bantu knotting (that is a word, I think?). </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I am currently using it to keep my hair moisturized while in Senegalese twists. I can almost hear my hair sigh in contentment every time I spray it! Thirst-quencher is what it is to my mane.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ZEu1twlCa0E/UvnOXmymFoI/AAAAAAAAAHk/tTMKH2P7j1E/s640/blogger-image-1397444727.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ZEu1twlCa0E/UvnOXmymFoI/AAAAAAAAAHk/tTMKH2P7j1E/s640/blogger-image-1397444727.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Verdict</span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Amazing stuff! Simple and it stretches your moisturizer. My $11 knot today detangler/leave in is still going! Usually it would last my a few weeks tops. Now? It's on its second month coz I use it to make the spritz and water makes the bulk of it so, saving a dollar baby for a rainy day!!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Have you tried making your own bottle of my version of spritz? Tell me how it turned out and how you like it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Your hair is your crowning glory. Therefore, love it, live it, rock it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">Blessings!</span><br />

7 bucks and some change at walmart for this big ole thing. Walgreens think they are sleek. Selling theirs for 12 bucks. Nkt. I took it back so fast! Shoulda known Sam got my back. :-) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Guess where I found this stash tho! At the laxative aisle. Really??? So if it's drinkable, it's safe for my mane right? Whole new meaning to 'my hair is the sh*t. ROTFL. I need to stop!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

Tea tree oil was 10 bucks. Cheaper at the Body Shop but might be a smaller bottle. Hey, I'm frugal but who goes to the mall and leaves with just the one thing they budgeted for? So I resisted temptations. Went to A1 beauty. That Asian brother got eeeeeeee'rything!!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Knot today - 11 bucks at target, Urban Beauty etcetera. </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In a clear spray bottle, I mixed the above ingredients and shook it up. Amazing how it mixed together so well to produce a white creamy yet light solution for my daily use. </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VtjNb1Wg1Ng/UsyToDhHZ4I/AAAAAAAAAHU/k3rOtAbQ07k/s640/blogger-image--995381821.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VtjNb1Wg1Ng/UsyToDhHZ4I/AAAAAAAAAHU/k3rOtAbQ07k/s640/blogger-image--995381821.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Try it with different oils too, eg. add a bit of jojoba oil for more umph to your cocktail :-). Better yet, if you do not like tea tree's scent (I heard its good for preventing dandruff, scalp itching and also promotes hair growth) sub with your essential oil of choice. I coulda used a gallon with all that jazz about it.... but you would choke around me lol! Might try vanilla, orange or other next time. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Planning on using it even if my hair is in braids. Working on a flat twist out right now. Will keep you posted on how my hair portion works with it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ps. The aloe needs to be refrigerated once it's opened so my concoction (make small portions at time- 1-2 weeks worth is good) gets to claim a place in the ice box. Marking my territory y'all! Got junk and knickknacks all over the house so I guess it's marked already huh. :-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, my natural sistas. Moisturize, moisturize moisturize! It's the secret to healthy strong, shiny hair that looks alive and not dying. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What do you do to curb breakage? This winter calls for measures to protect your hair from the harsh cold and dry heat indoors. </div>
<div>
It's your mane. Love it, live it, rock it!!</div>

I have a whole stash of products that promised lots of things. Some have more than delivered their promises, and some have been an outright rip-off. I give each product a couple of chances usually. <div>This time my object of attention was the CurlMax curl pudding.</div><div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-j9I1K8p0TBM/UsfH2HuOVVI/AAAAAAAAAG0/71Yvlcd3uG8/s640/blogger-image--849964505.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-j9I1K8p0TBM/UsfH2HuOVVI/AAAAAAAAAG0/71Yvlcd3uG8/s640/blogger-image--849964505.jpg"></a></div><br>
Bought it at Walmart early last year and hated it on the first use. But again I never read instructions..... still do not know how the manufacturer says to use the darn stuff :-). All I know is that the first time I used it, the slimy feel in my hands conjured up really ugly images in my head. And my mind is never in the gutter y'all (ha!). <br>
Anyway, yesterday, second night of duty (vamp kind of life), i needed to give my edges a break from the poof. And it had to be a quick style. So, my hair is one of those really thirsty kind that breaks and screams for moisure every day no matter what. Instead of spritzing or using my hands to wet it with a lil water, I opted to shower without a cap. The humidity, heat and moisture from the shower was heaven to my hair. Then I remembered this lil acronym I keep reading about in NHBs (Natural hair blogs). Just came up with that too - LOC. Liquid, Oil, Cream. Okay, so liquid is on board (water), I followed with my homemade mousse of coconut oil, shea butter and jojoba oil combo. Then the cream was my all time favorite product Knot Today leave in/detangler.<br>
<img height="410" id="il_fi" src="http://img1.targetimg1.com/wcsstore/TargetSAS//img/p/13/04/13044269.jpg" style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="410"><br>
<br>
Then I finished with the curl pudding and walaa!! I think I found a way to maximize its supposed attributes!<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-A_LpGSNmRLs/UsfH1O_KliI/AAAAAAAAAGs/8sGTrh0317Y/s640/blogger-image-166012956.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-A_LpGSNmRLs/UsfH1O_KliI/AAAAAAAAAGs/8sGTrh0317Y/s640/blogger-image-166012956.jpg"></a></div><br>
I love the soft feel of my hair. Wierd but the oil must have diminished the slimy feel!!! I dont see any caking or flaking at all and no dryness that's out of the norm for my hair after hours of working in a hospital under bright lights and purposefully very dry air. My mane is soft, the curls defined but very small for what I am used to getting with other products (looks like ringlets). <br>
As for shrinkage with this combo of products, it was like 50% I think but I love my teeny weeny fro!I am sure if I was doing twist outs or double twists, I would have retained more length.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-X-IQairQQTs/UsfH0ZROpuI/AAAAAAAAAGk/cXmcbx6IULY/s640/blogger-image--1567897618.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-X-IQairQQTs/UsfH0ZROpuI/AAAAAAAAAGk/cXmcbx6IULY/s640/blogger-image--1567897618.jpg"></a></div><br>
<br>
I think I will follow this routine often for an easy, on the go look. Different hair types react differently to different hair products. Just because I achieved what was promised is no guarantee for the next person when they follow the exact same routine. Hair has life of its own, personality too. So its alright to write a product off if your hair was not too happy with it. There is a sea of produts out there.<br>
<br>
I may have to dig deeper and see what other products I had written off and need a second chance. But on my mind is Cantu hair masque. Will tell you all about it when I give it a try. God bless you all and happy New year 2014!!!<br>
<br>
I am all about loving my mane, and living it too!! It ain't that serious!!<br>
</div></div>mcDimpleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503884679607063990noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5812897028625680633.post-66259686423422662252013-12-30T23:06:00.001-08:002013-12-30T23:24:30.725-08:00A breakage experience<div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">Breakage is a hot mess!!! I promise you it is!! </div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">So I had my hair in a lil protective style and really liked the minimal manipulation for two weeks. Well, all was well until I took the crochet weave down. π Sigh. I was horrified at how crispy my hair felt between my fingers. I dreaded combing it out even with my wide toothed comb. I forgot a very important principle while I rocked the curls. Hydration. </div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">With a dreadful feeling, i decided to do a hot oil treatment and see if it will save me the agony of seeing my hairs on the comb and bathtub....... Nope! Too late an intervention. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kcPPOtds2SM/UsJs-BAkvHI/AAAAAAAAAF0/lLhadGAXR2Y/s640/blogger-image-1557650222.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kcPPOtds2SM/UsJs-BAkvHI/AAAAAAAAAF0/lLhadGAXR2Y/s640/blogger-image-1557650222.jpg"></a></div></div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">For the first time since going natural, I shed like a dog. Or Mercedes, Kui's cat. ππ. That kitty gal is something else! Anyway, I lost lots of hair.</div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;"><br></div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-gTzJ_IMhqmI/UsJtDH9nDUI/AAAAAAAAAGU/3cS1BRby7Z8/s640/blogger-image--56631540.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-gTzJ_IMhqmI/UsJtDH9nDUI/AAAAAAAAAGU/3cS1BRby7Z8/s640/blogger-image--56631540.jpg"></a></div> A shampoo and condition later, my heart broke over the clumps of hair on the shower floor and on my wide toothed comb.... Sob sob!</div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">I saturated the hair with Mr. Favorite Cantu leave in conditioner (well, not that much. Just a lot!!) and followed with my Shea butter, coconut and jojoba oil concoction. Then I did a simple Bantu twists routine.</div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Vcujm_8OAvs/UsJtAn9HAvI/AAAAAAAAAGE/zHS1waEPfPs/s640/blogger-image--1484026185.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Vcujm_8OAvs/UsJtAn9HAvI/AAAAAAAAAGE/zHS1waEPfPs/s640/blogger-image--1484026185.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">I slept on it and unravelled them the next day and used mg concoction again, this time lightly on my hands as I separated each twist to minimize frizz.</div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">So, lesson learnt. Moisturize moisturize moisturize!!! And it doesn't matter the style. I dropped the ball; paid for it too. So my plan is to come up with a concoction that I can use in a spray bottle for ease and to ensure it really gets in there. Research has given me a couple of ideas. Will try them out and will share what works. Not just for open hair but hair in protective styles too - braids, corn rows, and weaves. </div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">All hair needs moisture to keep from breaking. Natural, or permed. Well, At least our kind of hair. Will have to ask Rosa or Cynthia if theirs does too ππβΊοΈ.</div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;"><br></div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">I love the Bantu twist out. Easy, and gives the hair curl definition. </div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bNJbY4jmW8U/UsJs_aybEHI/AAAAAAAAAF8/oJs3ivTM8Ro/s640/blogger-image--1362107464.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bNJbY4jmW8U/UsJs_aybEHI/AAAAAAAAAF8/oJs3ivTM8Ro/s640/blogger-image--1362107464.jpg"></a></div>Gather it up in an up do or let your fro loose. Pin it up for a Mohawk look or whatever. So many ways, so many looks. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Maybe you have experienced breakage too. What's your take on it? What did you do to curb it? Comments on the blog are highly welcome!! </div><br></div><div style="color: rgb(126, 79, 66); font-family: MarkerFelt-Thin; font-size: 20px;">It's your crown, love it, live it, wear it.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-h38QKR3-Zc8/UsJtBhWr0uI/AAAAAAAAAGM/N1TxOnBrUcc/s640/blogger-image--1895266842.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-h38QKR3-Zc8/UsJtBhWr0uI/AAAAAAAAAGM/N1TxOnBrUcc/s640/blogger-image--1895266842.jpg"></a>Love and blessings!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Mrs. Roulette </div><br></div>mcDimpleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503884679607063990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5812897028625680633.post-35437001543614428082013-11-30T18:19:00.001-08:002013-12-01T11:42:47.178-08:00The Frugal naturale.Penny pinchin' yet up for some fab hair and ooooohs and aaaaahs over my mane, it can get expensive keepin' up the 'natural' lifestyle. Doesn't have to be tho! There's walmart n target n cvs n places like that whose products work just as well - without the big dent in your wallet.<div><br></div><div>So on Friday I changed up my routine a wee bit. Used a different combo of my products (do you really want to see the baskets of my hair care junk? Nope!). </div><div><br></div><div>I wash n condition every 10 or so days. Used to do every week but honey, there's more to life than just hair. Like movies and husbands and girlfriends. Every couple of months, I deep condition at Pauline's - My hair dresser. If I have a weave or braids I wash every two weeks. Hono is amazing. My other hair dresser. The one I cheat on Pauline with. Lmao!!! One is good for sets, color n stuff; The other for protective styles. What can I say, this African girl can have it ALL!! </div><div><br></div><div>Anywho, first the shampoo .....</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--gcYBHEOYyE/UpqchG8cpHI/AAAAAAAAADg/B-drzr8Zj58/s640/blogger-image--494370446.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--gcYBHEOYyE/UpqchG8cpHI/AAAAAAAAADg/B-drzr8Zj58/s640/blogger-image--494370446.jpg"></a></div>Cheap stuff. Bought them for 99 cents each at CVS this summer. Still going the mile!! With my hair soaked and lathered up using the shampoo, I applied Africa's best herbal oil to my hair. Shampoo strips your hair of dirt, oils, etc so for me, I feel I need to replace that not just at the styling stage but at the beginning. Not the dirt! The natural oils. Just a palmful. I gently massaged it in and boy did my hair feel good! Then a rinse. Warm to lukewarm H2O they say, is good for your hair. Sorry I don't follow that rule. I love my water hot! Change is a-coming and one day I will turn down the water temp. π</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2hTgsDSm1rM/UpqcN5FJf3I/AAAAAAAAADI/v-i9ljYMXog/s640/blogger-image-62622980.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2hTgsDSm1rM/UpqcN5FJf3I/AAAAAAAAADI/v-i9ljYMXog/s640/blogger-image-62622980.jpg"></a></div>Followed by the moisturizing conditioner. Lots of it! Slobbered my hair with it. See, cheap is good for something! And I do not give up quality for quantity, if that's what you are thinking. This stuff is good and smells so yum!! This time I also added the little hair mayonnaise I still had left. I was not going to fight with the Black Friday mad folks at walmart just to get my organics hair mayo tub. Uh-uuhm!! </div><div>Massaged the combo into my hair and scalp and left it for about 5 minutes. Wrapped with a walmart plastic bag. Yeh, I'm hood like dat! If you have conditioning cap, go ahead with your bad self! Use it! I was too impatient to wait 10 minutes I <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">had planned on..</span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">..</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Some neo soul on my tube-in radio didn't do much either to make me chill and let it flow πΆπΆπΆπΆ.....A</span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">nd I haven't invested in a steamer. Wish someone </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">would peak at my Amazon wish list.....π</span></div><div><br></div><div>Then a quick rinse and pat with towel. Rubbing breaks my hair so bad and gets it in knots. Divided the mane to two parts for easier management... The hair bands are the kind that are not supposed to break your hair..... They are almost 100% what they claim to be. π I see a couple of strands on mine. Not too bad!</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-nUaLlpQJuXY/UpuOjOY4wbI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/h61DbhSofgQ/s640/blogger-image--92941548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-nUaLlpQJuXY/UpuOjOY4wbI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/h61DbhSofgQ/s640/blogger-image--92941548.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-iAh2XGn9aGo/UpqcopJRIxI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/pFhBWnzAxk0/s640/blogger-image-1302970082.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-iAh2XGn9aGo/UpqcopJRIxI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/pFhBWnzAxk0/s640/blogger-image-1302970082.jpg"></a></div>Hair still damp, I grabbed my knot today leave in conditioner and detangler (kinky curly line of products. 11 bucks at target, whole foods, or urban beauty if u are in KC. Most Asian hair stores carry them now) and generously applied to each section. Silky goodness!!!! Immediately followed with some Moroccan argan oil to seal in the moisture. This oil is so light!! Decided to rock the twists to work..... They are still intact, and with no gel or nothin'! Tomorrow is Sunday. Will unravel them for my Church look! Super fro!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So you see? It doesn't have to be a cold turkey all organic, all natural hair products affair. All I used prolly totals 25 bucks, 30 tops and all last a long while! And oh, in my opinion, safe to use!! It's not like I suddenly have Indian silk on my head just coz I quit the hair crack and went for the big chop. It's just hair people. Just be kind to it, love it, live it, rock it!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Tomorrow I will add the picture of the twists unravelled. That is Roots in Swahili. Some people say they experienced redemption, others say they found their identity when they chopped off the fried (oops! permed) hair they wore for years. Others say it was a break from the enslavement by hair crack. I don't know about all that. I believe each person has their own reason to go natural. Correction, go BACK to being natural. After all, that was the original form, right?<br>
<br>
Come to think of it, I really do not know exactly why I decided to chop my chemical-treated hair. Was it the money I kept shelling out for the sets and styles? I shell about an equal amount whenever I go to a natural hair stylist if not more. Was it the broken hair strands I kept seeing on my comb and sink that drove me to the shear? I still see those same hairs when I do not take care of my natural mane well enough. Was it a desire for a different look? A different appeal? I think I look fabulous either way. Oh, did the million blogs that exist and peer pressure convince me to go for the big chop? Nope! Matter of fact, I was sure going natural was not going to be necessarily easier for me (much as my tangles are easy to manage).<br>
<br>
I just know that one day I was tired of my edges that a horrible full lace stylist 'lined' to create a hairline I did not ask for. I wanted my natural hairline (all around) back and I did not have the patience to wait to nurse it back while hiding it with more damage (weaves and more full lace wigs). So I went for the big chop. Exhillarating! In the mirror I saw the high school girl I was 13 years ago. Soft, natural, curly brown hair. I smiled...... I am still smiling. mcDimpleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503884679607063990noreply@blogger.com0
